Managing Rail projects – can be very difficult as the window of opportunity can be only a weekend in a point in time where you can change the rail network.

• Possessions Management – happen a few times a year and this is where all construction and planning, works back from this fixed possession date. 
• Identify the critical path tasks, risks and opportunities.
• Once you have a fully sign off scope, you can put the information in a Schedule using Primavera or MS Project.
• This will be a resource and cost loaded schedule to monitor progress and Earn Value Analysis.
• Stakeholder Management – endless meetings with stakeholders and contractors until you get to a stage where you can put your hand on your heart and say the schedule is deliverable at this stage. 
• The project managers role is to ensure the works is completed to Time, cost and Quality. In rail project management there is another corner stone, Safety, as most construction project will happen during the running of trains. 

In Maritime and Council Projects:-

• Consultation with Local Council, Crown Lands and or Maritime, providing a schedule/reports continuous or as required.
• Well defined scope and confirmed budget
• Consultation with Designer for Maritime or Council construction and material specification standards
• Safety checks on plant and equipment prior to starting work.
• Necessary Certificates before construction can start.
